Rail Hazmat Response Operations

On Friday September 9, 2016, the University of Findlay’s All Hazards Center will conduct an 8-Hour Rail Hazmat Response Operations class at the Brooklyn Fire Department (8400 Memphis Ave, Brooklyn, OH 44144) from 8am-5pm.

The purpose of the course is to provide hazardous materials training for emergency responders. This training is specifically for responses to derailments that involve shipments of crude oil, ethanol, and other flammable liquids.

 Topics discussed during training include:

  • Rail car design features and aspects of construction that would impact response strategies
  • Characteristics of chemicals and toxicology focusing on crude oil, ethanol and other flammable liquids
  • Hazardous materials recognition and identification strategies
  • Offensive, defensive, and non-intervention response strategies for fire and spill incidents

There will be hands-on scenarios using a mock rail car to emphasize the objectives of the training.

Target audience for this seminar is first responders from fire and police departments. Seating will be limited to the first 40 people who register.

Please RSVP by Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016.
