The Hazardous Materials section of the EMA works in conjunction with the Cuyahoga County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), a local organization mandated by the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act of 1986, and Section 3750.03 of The Ohio Revised Code. The Section maintains files on over 1000 annual chemical inventories and annually completes planning requirements for over 250 facilities that store extremely hazardous substances. Responsibilities of the Hazmat section staff include annual submission of the SARA Plan (Emergency Response Plan for Hazardous Materials) to the state, spill report documentation, the processing of information requests, facility site inspections and plan testing with local HAZMAT teams through a comprehensive exercise program.
