PER-213 - Wide Area Search (WAS) Course


The Cuyahoga County Emergency Management Agency and the Region2 Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Team along with the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEXS) is hosting a 3-day Wide Area Search Course on Augut 27-29, 2013 - 8:00am - 5:00pm at the Strongsville Fire Station #4 in Strongsville OH.    

The Wide Area Search course has been developed for local, state and federal responders who may be required to perform search operations due to a natural disaster or terrorist incident. Participants will learn practical search methods and skills in order to perform systematic searches over a large affected area. The course concludes with a table top exercise that requires participants to utilize the previous two days of instruction. The curriculum of this course is based on lessons learned from search operations in support of the Space Shuttle Columbia recovery, Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Dolly, Ike and other wide area search incidents.

The target audience includes, but is not restricted to, those first responders dealing with all types of search including canine, and all emergency responders from municipal and industrial sectors, tasked with search operations.

Course participants include emergency responders from the following five disciplines/services:

Fire Service (FS)

• Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

• Law Enforcement (LE)

• Military (MT)


Prerequisites:

There are no prerequisites for this course.


Recommended:

Prior to attending this course, participants should:

• Complete IS-100 - Introduction to the Incident Command System or equivalent

• Complete IS-200 - ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents or equivalent

PLEASE NOTE: Priority registration will be given to DEPLOYABLE members of the Region 2 USAR team.
